How a Project Moves Through Our Workshop

Intake & Assessment

You send or bring your book to our workshop. We photograph the current state, document damage or wear, and provide a written assessment within two working days. No charge for assessment.

Treatment Proposal

We outline the recommended treatment, materials, timeline, and cost. For heritage items, we include reversibility notes and conservation-grade material specifications. You approve before any work begins.

"The proposal for our parish records was thorough — every step explained in plain language." — Fr. Declan Murtagh, Koelpinberg Parish

Workshop Execution

Work is carried out by hand using traditional techniques and conservation-grade adhesives, threads, and leathers. We photograph key stages for your records.

Quality Review

Before delivery, a second conservator inspects the finished work against the original treatment plan. Any deviation is documented and explained.

Delivery & Aftercare

You receive your book with a condition-after-treatment report and care guidance. We offer a twelve-month structural warranty on all binding work.

Workshop Notes

Our workshop uses acid-free materials throughout. Thread is Irish linen where available. Leathers are sourced from tanneries that meet archival permanence standards.

We maintain a temperature- and humidity-controlled drying room for water-damaged recoveries.

Current capacity: accepting new projects with a start date within 5 working days for standard services.

Editorial: Why Physical Books Still Matter

In a world saturated with screens, the physical book endures — not as a novelty, but as an irreplaceable medium. A well-bound book is tactile, durable, and private. It requires no battery, no subscription, no terms of service.

We see this daily in our workshop. A grandmother's prayer book, held together with tape and hope. A solicitor's deed book from 1887, still consulted for boundary disputes. A child's first picture book, read so many times the spine finally gave way.

Our work is not about nostalgia. It is about extending the functional life of objects that carry meaning. Every repair we make is an argument that some things deserve to last longer than a product cycle.

"The best binding is invisible — the reader forgets the book was ever broken." — Workshop principle

Client Feedback

★★★★★

"Brought in a water-damaged first edition Flann O'Brien. They saved it. Genuinely saved it. The binding is stronger than the original." — Tomás Ó Riain, Cork
